Wake Me Up When Dance Is Back

Wake Me Up When Dance Is Back

Hey everyone! My name is Sydney McArthur, owner of Live Love Gameday®. So a fun fact about me...

I began dancing classical ballet at the age of 3. You know....pink tights that are wrinkled at the knees, not a care in the world...dance was and still is my happy place. In high school, one of my favorite performances of the year was "The Nutcracker" each holiday season. My dance studio in the Rio Grande Valley always used a professional ballet dancer for the role of "Sugar Plum Fairy." One year, I was chosen as the first non-professional to play the role. It was truly one of the best memories of my childhood! I played the role of Clara, the girl harlequin doll, the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Snow Queen and more. Have you ever seen the Nutcracker? Have you ever performed in the Nutcracker? What is your favorite dance memory?

At the age of 17, I traveled from my hometown to Dallas, Texas where I competed in a team dance competition. I also performed a solo. It was there that I was scouted out by a recruit for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. I remember holding he paperwork and looking in the mirror. I was days away from my 18th birthday, my hair was in a slicked back bun, I didn't wear makeup....there was NO chance I could join a team of gorgeous women, with incredible curves and bouncing curls. There was NO way! Let me tell you...these things do not matter. You are you...and if they see something in YOU, then you better own that!

In May of 2008, just a few days after I turned 18...I made the journey to Dallas where I auditioned for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. It was the most challenging process, both mentally and physically, that I have EVER done. I can't count how many times I cried, but in the end it was worth it. I cheered on the sidelines for America's Team for 7 incredible seasons--2008-2015, i believe the second longest in their history.

I still love to dance. While running a company full-time & keeping up with my wild &. crazy 18-month-old, I don't necessarily have the luxury of attending dance classes as often as I wish, but dancers always find a way. I dance in my room. I dance outside. I turn on old DCC songs and bust out the dances I still know. Dance is my happy place. It always will be.
