Tonight is the Hall of Fame (HOF) game, which is an annual NFL exhibition game that kicks-off the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s induction ceremonies weekend and signifies the end of the NFL’s six month off-season. So basically, it’s Christmas Eve for all of us die-hard football fans!
This year’s HOF weekend is even more special for Dallas and Fort Worth natives because of two very special inductees. The owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, is being inducted along with a former TCU football player, LaDainian Tomlinson. The other inductees are Terrell Davis, Kurt Warner, Jason Taylor, Morten Anderson, and Kenny Easley.
Another reason that Dallas residents should be excited is because the Cowboys will be playing in this pre-season game for the sixth time in history! They’ll be facing the Arizona Cardinals, who are making their 5th HOF game appearance.
The game is being held in Canton, Ohio at the brand new Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, which is just adjacent to the actual Hall of Fame itself. If you’re familiar with the HOF game, then you may have a bad taste in your mouth from last year’s disappointment. The game was actually canceled due to unfit playing conditions on the field. However, the brand new stadium, which was part of a $700 million dollar initiative in Canton, ensures that the field will be more than ready! The game is also being held on a Thursday for the first time in history to make sure that the players are the first ones on the turf during HOF weekend.
As is customary with most pre-season games, neither team will be using their starters for this exhibition, making this what we like to call at LLG the “chillest game of the year.” In other words, there’s no need to get all dressed up, throw a tailgate, or make a million appetizers at home for this event. Just like you would on Christmas Eve, it’s time to get into your game day sweats and chill on the couch with friends, because football is officially back!
