On the Road Again

By: Hailee Hathcock   { @hailstravels }

The countdown is on! Only a few more weeks until we head out on the road again, or set up the tailgates on our home turf for the best season of the year… FOOTBALL SEASON. College football is a tradition in the south – colleges go all out, fans travel near and far, tailgates are attended, & parties are thrown, all in celebration of our favorite team hitting the field in the colors we cheer for. What day could I be referring to? What tradition lives on every Saturday in the South? What time of year is seen as the best in all of the year? Game day! Game day is near, so it’s our time to do whatever we have to do to get excited & be ready to throw an awesome tailgate, put together the best game day outfit the world has ever seen, and cheer on our team to victory! All hail, college game day.

I used to dread away games more than anything when football season rolled around. Then came college and it all changed. Instead of thinking of these away games as a hassle where I had to make travel plans, find a hotel, and have a bigger chance of my team losing the game… I flipped the script, and instead saw away games as a chance to road trip with all of my friends, explore a new state, and watch my team kick butt even on the road! Everyone always wants a home-schedule where the crowds are louder and the stadium feels like home, but sometimes it feels pretty good to get away and grab a victory on the road.

There’s nothing quite like the Swamp, especially a night game in the Swamp – when the crowds are roaring and decked out in orange and blue. Those kind of games are the ones where only Gators get out alive. Chomp Chomp! But then a new week comes and we’re on the road again… headed to a new state, taking our seats in a new stadium, and trying to get the road W against a new team. Traveling to new states every week or two is always exciting because me and my friends are getting to see a little piece of the world… well of the south at least ;-) We discover new places to eat, finding a Cane’s wherever possible, and find our way to the unknown stadium to watch the game. A necessity of game days is the food, so when you’re on the road definitely scope out the yummiest dives and game day bars whenever possible. You won’t wanna miss out on the food southern states have to offer!

Speaking of game day necessities, your game day outfit can make or break you, especially when it comes to being on the road for away games. Football season starts in early September, where it’s all shorts, tank tops, and sundresses. Girls find their cutest outfits in their team colors, stick a mascot tattoo to their cheeks, and pin their sorority pin proudly. My game day style changes depending on what’s “in”, the season, and just how I’m feeling that particular Saturday. Sometimes a cute graphic tee (like the ones on LiveLoveGameday.com) or a team tee will do the job when paired with jean shorts or a cute skirt, but other times I take the dressier route and sport my cutest white/blue/orange outfit. When the winter months creep in it’s time to locate a cardigan for those cute graphic tees, pull out the boots and the leggings, order some flare jeans, and for me, attempt to find a cute orange sweater (it’s harder than you think). Don’t forget your sorority pin and see-through game day bag. (Guys – these bags are no joke, snag a cute one on LiveLoveGameday.com for this season so the SEC staff doesn’t turn you away… it happens to the best of us, trust me) Game day outfits change based on trend, but sporting your team’s colors in the cutest way you know how is always in style.

So here it comes, football season is emerging and we’re all so ready to say the least. I know I can’t wait to get decked out in orange and blue, tailgate and road trip with my girls, and cheer on my Gators. So, get your outfits together, book your hotels, find your tickets & grab your friends as you prep for the best and brightest time of the year! I’ll seeya in the stands ;-)
