Her goal is to "Empower the Sports Curious," by running a website and brand that gives subscribers the key facts from recent sporting events. This way, anyone can join in on sports conversations! Check out the awesome post she wrote for us below, and keep an eye out for a second post coming soon:

Say sayonara to your Sundays (and Mondays and sometimes Thursdays) because the NFL is back. Whether you watch your football games from the tailgate party, the couch, the stadium or if you prefer not to watch at all, it’s important to understand what’s going on so you can join the conversation not only at the game, but at a cocktail party, work or even at your own dinner table.

Here are a few pointers for the beginning of the season.

·       The NFL season has 16 regular season games and the season culminates with the Super Bowl in February. This year’s Super Bowl will take place in Minneapolis, home of the Minnesota Vikings.

·       Tom Brady and the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl last season and experts say it looks like they could repeat again this year. If you’re wondering how your team is projected to do this year click here.

·       American football has continued to grow in popularity worldwide. Teams have been playing games in Europe for the past few seasons but this year they’re stepping it up with five international games in London and Mexico City.

·       The men and women that roam the sidelines, the referees, have a unique gig. Until this year, their jobs were considered part-time, working 30-50 hours a week. Many of them took off-season jobs like a sales broker, teacher, probation officer or one of football’s most recognized referees, Ed Hochuli, is a partner in a law firm in Phoenix. This season for the first time ever, there will be 24 full-time referees on the field.

You might be thinking, that’s great and all but help me actually join the conversation. Here are a few pointers for that.

1.     We’ve all been in that scenario when the guys begin debating the best quarterback of all time or the top pick in the draft. If you’re anything like me, my eyes glaze over and I try to find an escape out of the conversation. Most of those people are flaunting their knowledge.

The trick is to know when to chime in. Did they talk about a team you know? A team that’s in a city you love to visit? You’re not expected to drop statistics about passing yards or wins and losses; having a general idea of what’s going on will pay off big time.Simply jumping in with “how are they playing this year?” or “who are you rooting for?” always works as well.

2.     When you start paying attention to sports, you’ll realize they’re everywhere. From the pages of your People Magazine to the food in your freezer (Tom Brady has his own food delivery company) sports are more prevalent in your everyday life that you may have thought. As we mentioned in the point above, simply keep your eyes open in your daily routine for sports and it’ll be the gift that keeps on giving you conversation starters.

3.     When in doubt, ask. Most sports fans are happy to fill you in and teach you.
